There's just something about seeing the President that makes you feel like you should be doing something, like offering him your first-born son or something.
It's funny, you could have spent the last four years talking about how you'd give him a piece of your mind, but when he walks in the building, you're looking around for the nearest shoe polish. QUITE a humbling experience, lemme tell ya.
Here are a couple of awful photos I took during the experience, (more for proof of the event rather than a showcase of my photography skills, which are none).
Me being retarded on the left, and my wife being gorgeous on the right, as usual.
Picture #2

The Bush family on the megatron screen. A testament to actually how unimportant I really am. The only decent shot I could get was the megatron screen in front of my nose bleed section. Now that I think about it, I probably could have taken this shot at home ... Damn.
Picture #3

The President's "wheels." As you can see, the President required no golden carpet for his landing strip. The parking lot, where everyone else parked, was fine enough for him and his accompanying FIVE other helicopters that were there. Imagine my surprise as, trying to be suave with my wife to recover from being humbled to the point of embarassment earlier, six fricken helicopters rise above my head and fly off into the distance. I'm glad I have one of those "good personalities," because my tiny little Ford ranger definitely isn't helping me out in the "macho" department.
That was our little morning adventure. The President was funny, wholesome, and gave an extremely good speech, and his mother was grace personified. If any woman lived up to being the First Lady, it was definitely her.
I'll post no more pictures to give further evidence of my infant-like skills with the camera. I get plenty of jokes from friends and family as it is.
And with that, God bless, for we do live in the greatest country on Earth.
I'm proud to be an American.
P.S. My wife and I will be visiting her grandmother this weekend, so I will more than likely not be able to post. Don't want to let anyone think I'm getting lazy!

*EDIT* Formatting pictures on blogger is a nightmare.

Do we have the same president? He is funny (read: excellent fodder for jokes). I'll give you that. All joking aside, it is cool to meet someone "important" like that. I "met" Bill Clinton in high school--many moons ago. (and by meet, I do not mean anything involving cigars... just heard him speak in a convention center)
Such a funny post. I remember when Clinton came to Hawaii and I was working but me and a co-worker took to the streets, (and nooo, not that kind of work :), we secured a spot with our work tees on and there he went, in his limo, and we swore UP and DOWN he looked and waved at us, not anyone else, but US...(I laugh as I'm sure the gazillion others behind us thought the same thing). We were stupid giddy with president starstruckdom (a word?)and by the time we came back to work we were convinced the Prez was our new BFF. Just cause :)
I'm with you. I'm glad to be an American. :)
Really don't think I could get excited about this particular President. But I was very electrified to be at an Obama event during the primary... a picnic setting in a park, being on the same playground as his kids. So I get the excitement of having a leader in your presence.
I met Prince Charles when I was a child, and by met I actually do mean had a conversation (which was then broadcast on the radio! quite something at that age). If you'd told me then that he wouldn't be king yet, I wouldn't have believed you!!
I met a President once. And by "met" I mean "was scurried out of the lobby by his security detail". It was actually a former President and he was on a book tour. Always an interesting experience to be in the presence of someone "big" like that.
I for on think meeting ANY pres is cool, congrats dude. I am a proud American, who recognizes that this was not our best Pres. but he IS our pres. and I respect that. It's not an easy job, let's hope Obama can do half of what he promised, and I mean that. Now...back to work!
Interesting post...loved your "infant like" camera skills!
I have to agree with Annje's comment though: "Do we have the same president?"
I'm sorry, celebrity and all ... I just can't get excited about Bush.
*Shudder*
Nope, still not feeling it :)
haha that's awesome. It's reassuring that the President of the USA still (somehow) commands respect, at least in person, in contrast to all the times he seems to have put himself forward specifically to be laughed at.. ;P
After all, someone in such a powerful position needs to have that sort of effect.
As for America being the greatest country on Earth, well I'm just going to say that's it's a matter of perspective, I don't really care which country does lay claim to that; I'm happy to be Australian and personally wouldn't trade that for your country, as no doubt you wouldn't trade being American to be Australian. However, as much as I think patriotism is great, globalism is more important, and our most uniting factor is that we are all human, and as such, the concerns of people in any country should mean something to us...
Sorry, getting off topic ;P
Loved your previous post as well (:
I would love to meet the president. I admire him for having served us to the best of his ability. And, I'm glad that it is almost over for him.
Annje – Man, in my estimation, the media butchers his articulation during speeches. He had everybody laughing and inspired at the same time. He definitely did a great job at our commencement.
The Rambler – Dude, he totally looked at you. I have no doubt. Don’t hesitate to invite me at your next Presidential Poker bash.
Liz – I knew I would provoke some differentiate opinions with this post, but I resisted the urge to be political. The post was mainly on the position of the president rather than the actual sitting president. Also, that’s cool that you got to go to an Obama primary rally :)
Rachel Cotterill – Can I have your autograph?
Call Me Cate – “scurried out of the lobby by his security detail” you say? Do give details :)
Randy – Great job on the wisdom man. I respect that opinion a lot.
Jenners – By infant, I’m not exaggerating. I consistently took pictures of me and my wife’s honeymoon with the protective lens still covering the camera. *sigh*
Lyndsay – Hah, I wouldn’t have expected you to be an anti-Bush person. Who knew? (Rhetorical question by the way. I can’t tell you how many times I’ve had people respond to that question.)
Toivoa ja Elämän – Hey man, I think you have a keen perspective here. Very nicely said, and I agree with everything in your comment.
Sandra – I agree Sandra. I don’t envy any president that takes the Office. Too much responsibility for me, that’s for sure.
I love that you reply to all the comments!! Make me remember to go back and check comments more often!
Liz -- Well good! I'm still surprised that I have an audience for my posts, so I like to let my readers know that I appreciate their comments.
Consider your comment appreciated.
